Seeking Junior Editor
We are a small, professional, independent publisher of a book on a business model for the escort industry. This is sold through our website and other book purchasing sites. We value our team members and offer the following:
- career and compensation growth for long-term contractors
- the ability to work virtually
- professional training
- an intellectual work environment, and
- a fun atmosphere!
WHAT WE NEED
Currently we are in need of a motivated, talented, and forward-thinking Jr. Editor who is really really good, & English is their mother tongue.
You will be editing files, all articles (legal & non legal), webcopy, handbooks, auto responders etc. You will not be editing erotica or anything similar, but if you are close minded, you aren't suited for this company.
WHAT WE REQUIRE
We will only accept e-mails from individuals that possess the following job-related qualifications:
- you MUST have minimum 2 years editing experience.
- you must be able to edit not just for spelling and grammar, but for flow, run-ons, organization, ease of read etc. We are not looking for just proof reader.
- you have that skill & knack for editing almost anything. You find your own mistakes instead of us having to. The President personally reviews all work & so far she hasn't found anyone who can really edit so well that she doesn't have to correct their work, & this is even after they claim they can edit, & have been doing it for years.
- We are NOT looking for a writer, but you need to know how to reword sentences if they need rewording without changing the tone. You fabulous editors know what we are talking about.
- For the legal articles you will probably have to dumb down the copy so the average lay person can understand them, & do so without changing the meaning of the law.
Note: We are NOT looking for someone who is a corporate editor/writer. Except for our legal articles, our style is very personable, down to earth, & this industry has its own jargon. Complicated large words are generally NOT used, & some editors can't deal with that, so a heads up. - experience in when to use headings, sub headings etc.
- if something isn't reading right, or it needs more information, you are sharp enough that you can tell us so we can fix that.
- Being able to organize content in a file into proper sections is a bonus.
- knows Word Tracking completely & isn't afraid to use it.
- you MUST have a PC to work off of, or your MAC version of Word won't interfere with our PC Word version, & you know the ins and outs of how to control your MAC so it doesn't cause problems with e-mail etc.
Additionally, in order for us to consider your e-mail, you must meet the following requirements:
- The intellect to understand that although we publish a book that serves to educate on how to establish an adult industry related business, it does not diminish our level of professionalism, nor our ability to run an effective, profitable business, and treat contractors, vendors, etc. with respect.
We also build businesses that are mainstream, all geared towards helping the public. - The ability to take responsibility for all of your actions, & not blame others.
- A minimum of one-year experience that can be verified with you working in that capacity as a virtual independent contractor in your field of expertise.
- Be detail-oriented and confident in making suggestions when you see that something may be improved.
- Have the ability to be organized, set and meet deadlines and work independently in a virtual work environment.
- Possess excellent written and verbal English communication skills to include being able to follow explicit instructions via e-mail, instant messaging and on the phone.
- Demonstrate strong ethics and a solid personal commitment to your responsibilities.
- The desire to work in a friendly, down to earth, virtual workplace that applauds innovation and common sense.
Please include the following in your e-mail, & expect to receive an online application in your inbox:
- The keywords I am your new Jr. Editor in the heading of your e-mail.
- Your best “small business” hourly rate, and per word rate. We need both, as some files are flat rate, others are so small, it's by the hour.
- A description of your abilities as they relate to our needs, without an accompanying resume, as we award contracts based on the ability for a person/company to sell his/her skills without the structure of a resume. It is your responsibility to sell yourself, please don’t assume that we will assume details about you.
- List how many years you have been working virtually online
- A list of your professional references that can verify your editing abilities.
- List your top three strengths and your top three areas for improvement (everyone has areas for improvement, so you will not be pre-judged by your answer).
